Nu Dance Fest 2023: Petra Fornayová - Complementarity (SK)

The dance performance Complementarity was created on the basis of and in connection with Stan Filko's iconic work RETROOQS.F.12 colours of reality. The piece was on display in December 2022 in the bridge of the Slovak National Gallery as part of the preliminary peek into the gallery under reconstruction. It was also the occasion for the première of Petra Fornayová's of Complementarity.

Petra Fornayová is dedicated to contemporary dance and theatre. She graduated from the Faculty of Law of the Charles University in Prague, and also studied at the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava and at EDDC in Düsseldorf. She has created over 20 author's shows – Grass is Green, Manifesto of Possibilities, The End The End, Subjective Future, Opernball and others. She performed across Slovakia and internationally (International Festival Divadelná Nitra, New Drama, Jamais Vu!Paris, Dance Prague, HybajHo! Prague, Korespondance CZ and others). She directed the works of Rafael Spregelburd, Jana Bodnárová and Ivan Vyrypayev.

As an author or performer, she was part of a number of Slovak and international projects (Théatre du mouvement in Paris, collaboration with Ján Šimek, Petr Mazalán, etc.). The performances Dance with Changing Parts (2018) and Patterns (2019), premièred at the Opera Nova National Theatre Prague, which she created in collaboration with the Cluster ensemble, were nominated for the Tatra Banka Foundation Award. She was nominated for the 2018 National Film Award Sun in the Net for her role in Juraj Lehotský's film Nina. She created one of the main characters in Mira Fornay's film Cook F**k Kill nominated for the 2021 Czech Lion Award, incl. in the best film category.

In 2006, she founded and continues to lead the international contemporary dance festival Nu Dance Fest. Petra is a member of the editorial board of the contemporary art magazine VLNA, one of the founders of the Contemporary Dance Association, which she has led since 2001, and a co-founder of the culture space A4. She is a Board member of the Academy of Arts in Banská Bystrica. / www.petra-fornayova.sk
