Do you have a knack for art? – Freedom of Choice. Finalists’ Exhibition

7. May 2022 — 29. May 2022
Esterházyho palác, Bratislava

Do you have a knack for art? is an international platform focusing on art education. Every year it organizes a contest for high school students who want to deepen their interest in art and express their opinions on contemporary art and society. The exhibition presents the best projects of this year's competition with the theme Freedom of Choice by teams from all around Slovakia.

The competition encourages students to awaken their creative abilities and give them the courage to experiment with creative approaches in everyday themes, and also offers them and their teachers the opportunity to learn more about the contemporary art scene and the environment of galleries at home and in neighbouring countries.

You can find more information on the website: umeleckecrevo.sng.sk, on Facebook and Youtube channel of the competition.

The theme of the year 2021/2022

Should you wear a white or a black T-shirt in the morning? Add to or remove material from a sculpture? Freedom of choice is the foundation of artists' creative work and, at the same time, one of the universal human rights. However, the choice is not always free enough. Not everyone has a free choice of clothing, whether for economic, social or political reasons. The inability to choose an art education in the past has caused us to lag behind modern artistic thinking. Freedom of decision-making brings not only diverse options but also a great deal of responsibility. Our choices can affect the lives of others. For example, when we choose a sustainable way of life.

Freedom of choice is not only a necessity for artistic creation but also a frequent topic of its creators. The Dadaists freely chose objects and elevated them to works of art. The Slovak conceptual artist Ľubomír Ďurček developed this theme in a series of works devoted to the relationship between the words YES and NO.

And what about you? Will you take the opportunity to participate in an art competition that will give you the freedom to express your ideas?
