The acquisitions of SNG 1989-2001
The modern and contemporary arts (painting, sculpture, object, installation)

The exhibition, premiered in Bratislava in 2002, is the continuation of the cycle, which represents to our cultural public the additions of the collection fund of SNG.

After the works of Gothic and Baroque art represented by old graphics and drawings, icons, photographs, absolute art, and art handicrafts, bring closer artifacts from the collections of sculpture and painting of the second half of 20th century this time, which were purchased in the period of 1989-2001. Although, because of the financial reasons the acquisitions could not be realized in the regular annual intervals, the core of the exhibition is the leading works of the influential representatives of modern and contemporary art.

In addition to the works of the founders of Slovak painting and sculpture of the period of 1960's (A. Barčík, M. Čunderlík, R. Fila, A. Klimo, J. Koller, M. Paštéka, V. Popovič, M. Urbásek, R. Uher, J. Kostka, V. Kompánek, J. Jankovič, J. Kočiš, A. Rudavský, M. Dobeš, Š. Belohradský and others), there are also presented the authors of the next decade with their paintings and objects mainly influenced by the conceptual resources (J. Bartusz, M. Bartuszová, R. Sikora, J. Meliš, V. Havrilla, D. Fischer, K. Bočkayová, M. Bočkay and others). The word has also received the examples of so-called "the new paintings" (I. Csudai, L. Teren), the reconstruction of some environmental objects (S. Filko, J. Želibská) and spatial multimedia installation (D. Tóth, P. Rónai, P. Meluzin, R. Ondák, and others).
