Slovak Myth

29. September 2005 — 5. March 2006
Esterházyho palác, Bratislava
Curators: Aurel Hrabušický, Alexandra Kusá

The exhibition presents the key theme of 20th century - visual renditions of the concept of the Slovak nation about itself, its beginnings and about the sense of its existence.

It is due to this exhibition that we may clarify to what extent various forms of the Slovak myth are merely a romantic anachronism pertaining to the modern period or even a manifestation of the crisis of collective identity and to what extent they represent its natural search for identity. This frequently misused subject in history, in fact a complex of themes under the title Slovak Myth, is illuminated in the exhibition and in a miscellany of inter-disciplinary work. It is a catalogue of a wide range of works including painting, sculpture, drawing, graphic art, photography, new media, film but also artefacts of folk culture and historical documents.
