Nothing Can Stop Us! presents the key points of Laco Teren's artistic program and introduces the unique artistic personality of this polymuse. Teren was one of the leading figures of the post-Modernist generation, which around the mid-1980's presented their program of Neo-Expressive painting inspired by the Italian Trans-Avant-Garde and German Neue Wilde movements.
Through his explosive temperament and energetic and daring metaphors he poked fun at the main iconographic symbols of the socialist era in its twilight. Diverse topical and historical inspirations can be found in his contemporary, large canvases of "Baroque-Art Nouveau" and Pop-art style based on grandiose and colorful two dimensional drawing designs. Predominantly a painter, Teren also switches to sculpture from time to time.
Since the early 1990s he has also designed and created spatial objects which are based on the iconographic and style repertoire of his painting. Although painting is his main sphere of interest, he also combines drawings, paintings and sculptures. Teren's work has become a home for post-modern irrationality, humor, absurd metaphor, allegory and a constant playing with symbols - he is a master of hybrid signs and pop-cultural riddles.
Laco Teren (*June 11, 1960, Bratislava) studied restoration at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bratislava. In the early 1990s he participated in an internship at BINZ 39 in Zürich and in 2004 he was a visiting professor at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague. From 2003 to 2013 he worked for the TRANZIT Foundation in Bratislava focusing on the support of contemporary art. Teren, Ivan Csudai and Stanislav Diviš were represented at the 26th biennial in São Paulo by their project entitled Traja z pekného páru (Three of a Nice Pair). Teren's works can be found in several collections at home and abroad.
