Ján Krížik

13. June 2003 — 30. September 2003
Zvolenský zámok, Zvolen
Curator: Aurel Hrabušický

The exhibition provides a lifetime artwork of a prominent Slovak photographer Ján Krížik (1943), since 1994 he is a head of the Department of Visual Arts at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bratislave.

The Krížik's lifetime theme is taking picture of the naked women body and occasionally the men (especially his own) body. In addition, he uses a number of special photographic and artistic techniques, and staging methods which often overhang in the anti-naturalize or anti-aesthetic ways. Nevertheless, his acts do not lose the primary attraction.

In his staged photographs, which are sometime complemented with the luminous and graphic action, thus literally drawing with light, he get use to think of suggestions of the old and new fine arts (special relationship he has with Michelangelo and with French classicism and mannerism). With the help of props (especially masks), he makes allusions to mythological themes or unspecified barbaric rituals.
