Stars – The Czech Modern from Private Collections
Meet the founders of Czech Modernism. Czech modern painting in the first half of the twentieth century underwent a rapid development. Not only did it manage to absorb the impulses coming mainly from Paris, but it confronted them head-on: most painters, after adopting them, found their own parallel expression, thus contributing to the creation of a unique milieu in Central Europe.
The accompanying publication to the exhibition Stars - Czech Modern from Private Collections focuses on the work of six painters from their key period - František Kupka, František Foltýn, Emil Filla, Antonín Procházka, Toyen and Jan Zrzavý. It captures the multifaceted grasp of the dialogue between world and domestic art in the long period from 1912 to 1947.
